This week’s TV program entitled “It’s Time for Community Involvement” taking place under the moderatorship of Eastern Mediterranean University Education Faculty Educational Sciences Department academic staff member, social services specialist and Community Involvement Center executive board member Barış Başel hosted EMU Foreign Languages and English Preparatory School academic staff member and Animal Rights Activist Fayka Güresun.

At the beginning of the program Fayka Güresun gave information about the importance of the animal rights and stated that “like humans, animals have a right to life”. Güresun added that unfortunately in our country animal rights are not cared for or valued. Güresun also put forth that those who live with pets have a different and more positive outlook of life.

Fayka Güresun gave detailed information about  the “Neuter, Vaccinate, Give Life” project which was initiated on EMU Campus last year. Güresun  stated that the aim of the project is to put the campus cats and dogs under control by neutering, vaccinating and providing food.  Güresun added that within 1 year, 70 dogs were included in the project which prevented the birth of around 600 puppies. Güresun stated that students of the EMU Animal Welfare Club have also been contributing to the project by leaving food for campus dogs at food terminals which are located at four different points on the campus. Stating that the project is unique within the TRNC, Güresun added that they would be more than happy to assist similar projects throughout the island.
