Organised by Eastern Mediterranean University Architecture Faculty, Interior Architecture Department in collaboration with the Design Club, 9th EMU Sand Sculpture Festival and Competition took place at EMU Beach Club between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, 14 June 2015.
Around 60 groups formed by members from all universities within the TRNC as well as international students demonstrated their artistic skills in the competition which had a jury formed by Prof. Dr. Hıfsiye Pulhan (EMU), Refik Dimililer (NEU), Devrin Besim Yücel (CIU), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özlem Olgaç Türker (EMU), Hare Eminoğlu (EMU), Assist. Prof. Dr. Mesut Çelik (EMU), Nurtane Karagil (Famagusta Youth Center) and Prof. Dr. Uğur Dağlı’dan (EMU). Following the jury’s evaluation, groups entitled ‘Tarikat-ül Tahribat’, ‘Picnic’, ‘Happy Hours’, ‘Sandstorm’ and ‘Turkish Soldiers’ won this year’s awards.
Like the previous ones, 9th Sand Scuplture Festival brought color to Famagusta’s matchless beaches where the participants had a memorable day. Along with the groups taking part in the competition, a large number of viewers were also present at the beach.
EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam attended the event and analysed participating groups’ works of art. Award winning groups received their prizes from Rector Prof. Dr. Osam, Vice Rector for Student Affairs Prof. Dr. Hıfsiye Pulhan and Architecture Faculty staff.
EMU Interior Architecture Department Chair Prof. Dr. Uğur Dağlı thanked all those who took part in this colorful and creative activity and stated her hope to see all members of community in next year’s festival.
