6th ‘Career Over Coffee’ Event Held at EMU

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), Faculty of Business and Economics organized the 6th edition of the “Career over Coffee” events. The event took place on Tuesday, 6 May 2025 between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. at the garden of EMU Faculty of Business and Economics.

EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç, EMU Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Osman M. Karatepe and Prof. Dr. Ali Öztüren, Business and Economics Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Mustafa Besim, EMU General Secretary Derviş Ekşici, department heads, administrative directors, academic and administrative personnel members, representatives from the sector and many students attended the event.

“We are Adapting our Curriculum in line with the Evolving Global Conditions”

Delivering the opening speech of the event, EMU Business and Economics Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Mustafa Besim touched on the activities carried out by the faculty. Stating that EMU Faculty of Business and Economics is listed within the first 300 band of the Times Higher Education rankings, Prof. Dr. Besim stressed that this success has elevated the faculty to a pioneering position. Prof. Dr. Besim explained that their goal is to cultivate graduates who are critical thinkers, inquisitive, and able to adapt to change and development. Prof. Dr. Besim also noted that they regularly update their curriculum to keep pace with the changing global conditions, sharing that numerous events are organized with an innovative approach, including the Career over Coffee event, which was designed to offer valuable opportunities for students. Expressing pride in seeing EMU alumni succeed across various industries and mentioning that companies were invited to the event to provide students with insights into the business world, Prof. Dr. Besim concluded by thanking all the companies and individuals who supported and contributed to the event.

“Building Sectoral Relationships is a Major Goal for Us”

In his speech, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç emphasized that the event was more than just a casual coffee gathering, describing it as a vital opportunity where diverse perspectives come together, allowing students to begin exploring their future dreams, develop their ideas, and transform them. Prof. Dr. Kılıç stressed the event’s significance for students, especially when it comes to career planning, gaining inspiration from industry professionals, and learning from real-world experiences. Furthermore, Prof. Dr. Kılıç also pointed out that the Faculty of Business and Economics is one of the university’s oldest and most distinguished faculties. Prof. Dr. Kılıç mentioned that EMU’s academic and administrative staff are actively involved in both the public and private sectors, contributing to national policies and even international discussions. Prof. Dr. Kılıç said, “Wherever we go, we can always find an EMU graduate making an impact in their field”. He expressed his pride in seeing EMU graduates in prominent positions across various industries. In his closing remarks, Prof. Dr. Kılıç reiterated the university’s vision, stating, “Building sectoral relationships is a major goal for us. EMU is a leading university and a point of reference in this country”. Rector Prof. Dr. Kılıç concluded by thanking all the companies and individuals who supported the event.

Various Opportunities Being Presented Towards the Career Development of Students

As part of the event, candidate graduates has the chance to meet with company representatives, receiving first-hand information about vacant positions, internship opportunities and the expectations of the sector. The event provided the students with valuable opportunities to establish career connections, deepen their understanding of various industries, and interact directly with professionals, all of which contributed to their personal and professional growth. In a statement from EMU Faculty of Business and Economics, it was emphasized that such annual events are organized not only to enhance students’ academic learning but also to equip them with practical skills and industry ties that will benefit them after graduation. The faculty also highlighted that, throughout the academic year, training seminars are held to guide students in areas such as CV writing, crafting motivation letters, and mastering interview skills—providing thorough support for their job application journeys. At the end of the event, certificates of appreciation were presented to the participating companies.

TRNC Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Many Different Companies Participated

This year’s event was participated by many local companies, along with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Ministry of Foreign Affairs. AKOL Global, İlkay M.
