5th Molecular Biology and Genetics Career Day was Held at EMU

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Arts and Sciences Faculty, Department of Biological Sciences held the “5th Molecular Biology and Genetics Career Day” at the Mustafa Afşin Ersoy Hall at 10:00, on Friday, the 8th of November 2019. The event brought together Arts and Sciences Faculty, Department of Biological Sciences students and expert professionals from the field. Students obtained the opportunity to gain insights about job opportunities that await them. The opening speech of the event was delivered by EMU Arts and Sciences Faculty, Department of Biological Sciences Chair Prof. Dr. Bahar Taneri Güder, who provided information about the event and the Medical Biotechnology Master’s Program (without thesis) that was established in the Fall Semester of the 2019-2020 Academic Year. Touching upon the successful careers of graduates from their department, Prof. Dr. Taneri Güder advised students to communicate with the professionals attending the “5th Molecular Biology and Genetics Career Day”.

Education at an International Standard

In a speech of his own, EMU Arts and Sciences Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ali Özarslan noted that the event will play a big part in the identification of student’s career paths. Prof. Dr. Özarslan underlined that the Department of Biological Sciences which was established in 2011 provides education at an international standard with its multicultural environment. Stating that the Medical Biotechnology Master’s Program (without thesis) has started providing education after being approved by the Council of Higher Education Prof. Dr. Özarslan indicated that the program allows students a career in the sector of biotechnology, molecular diagnosis laboratories or in the pharmacy industry.

They Spoke About Their Career Journeys

During the event new academic staff from the Department of Biological Sciences delivered presentations. Prof. Dr. Gamze Başbülbül delivered a presentation titled “Microbial Biotechnology”. Asst. Prof. Dr. Deniz Balcı delivered a presentation titled “Stem Cell Biology” and Asst. Prof. Dr. Ilgın Çağnan delivered a presentation titled “Clinical Applications of Stem Cells in Cancer Therapy”.  These presentations were followed by a presentation titled “Molecular Immunology” which was delivered by Dr. Cengiz Gökeri from the Charite-University Hospital in Berlin, Germany. EMU Department of Biological Sciences Senior Instructors Pembe Savaş and İlkay Edip delivered presentations respectively titled, “Human Reproductive Genetics” and “Vaccines and Allergies”. During their presentations, the speakers provided students with information about their fields and career choices. After the presentations, EMU Arts and Sciences Faculty Vice-Dean Asst. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Bozer presented the speakers plaques of appreciation.
