24th EMU Spring Festival has been cancelled
The 24th Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Spring Festival will be taking place between the 16th and 19th of May 2018 on the EMU Campus. In order to relay extensive information about the 4 day long festival that will be taking place with North Cyprus Turkcell
‘s mobile communication sponsorship a press conference was held at the EMU Beach Club on Thursday, the 10th of May 2018 at 12:30.
Addressing students during the press conference, EMU Vice Rector for International Affairs and Promotion Prof. Dr. Cem Tanova stated that they are trying to organize events that will provide important contributions to students outside of the classroom as well as within. Underlining that the Spring Festival is an important event for EMU, Prof. Dr. Tanova noted that every year many social, cultural and sporting activities take place during the event.
Also present at the press conference were EMU Vice Rector for Student Affairs Prof. Dr. Halit Tanju Besler, Student Affairs Coordinators Assoc. Prof. Dr. Derviş Subaşı, Asst. Prof. Dr. Mutlu Kale and Asst. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Babagil, Social and Cultural Activities Directorate Unit Managers Damla Sayman and Evşim Erel, Public Relations and Press Office Director (a.) Murat Aktuğralı and Unit Manager Burcu S. Betin.
“Friends from EMU”
The slogan for this year’s Spring Festival is “DAÜ’lü Gommalar” which translates to “Friends from EMU”. “Gomma” is a colloquial term often used on the island to describe a friend. This year’s theme reflects EMU’s animal friendly campus and love for animals. The animals on the poster design do not only represent our strong bond with animals but also our universities’ slogan of virtue, knowledge and advancement.
Parade Walk
The 24th Spring Festival will begin with a parade walk starting from the Sakarya roundabout and ending outside of the Petek Patisserie in the Walled City. The walk on the 16th of May 2018 will begin at 17:30. The official opening of the ceremony will take place at 19:00 with the participation of EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam and the Vice Rectors at the Festival Area.
Workshops and Education Seminars
As part of the first day program of the 24th EMU Spring Festival a Visual Arts Club “Graffiti” workshop will be delivered by artist Erdoğan Ergün. The workshop will commence at 09:30 at the Department of Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design.
On Thursday, the 17th of May 2018, the second day of the festival photographer Tommy Reynold will be delivering a workshop on Lighting Portraits at 10:00 and a workshop on Post-Production Workflow at 14:00. The workshops will be taking place at the Department of Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design.
On the same day a Special Olympics Turkey Futsal Tournament will be taking place at the Lala Mustafa Paşa Sports Center at 11:30. An EMU Game Platform talk titled “Galaxy Guide of Independent Game Developer” will be delivered by Emre Canbazoğlu and Burkay Özdemir at 11:30.
A talk titled “You Can Do It!” will be delivered by Tuluhan Telekioğlu at 12:30 and the talk “Astrology with Nuray Sayarı” will commence at 13:30 in the Social and Cultural Activities Directorate – Activity Hall. Following the talks, the quiz show “Passaparola with Metin Uca” will commence at 16:00.
On Friday, the 18th of May 2018, three panels will be taking place at the Social and Cultural Activities Directorate – Activity Hall. The panel “Positive Effects of Sports as a Formative Tool in the Field of Special Education” will be held by Ege University Academic Staff Member Ebru Kalyoncu at 11:30. At 12:30 the panel “Devil’s Triangle: Love, Marriage and Infidelity” will be held Prof. Dr. Mehmet Sungur. At 14:00 the panel “Positive Behavioral Support in Special Education” will be held by Asst. Prof. Dr. Ziya Tavil, Assist. Prof. Dr.Salih Çakmak and Dr. Tamer Karakoç.
At 12:00 on Saturday, the 19th of May 2018 the education seminar “Effective Communication, Body Language and Diction Training” will be delivered by ATV Newscaster Cem Öğretir in the Library Auditorium. On the same day Hasan Bağlar, İrem Siyahgöz and Mert Yusuf Özlük’s “Nature Photography – About City – Meaning in Photograph” presentation and award ceremony will be taking place at the Social and Cultural Activities Directorate – Activity Hall at 12:30. At 13:30, Turkey’s renowned photographer Mehmet Turgut will be delivering a “Portrait and Set up” titled talk at the same venue.
Performances by Mustafa Sandal and Gülşen
Turkey’s famous artist Mustafa Sandal will be performing on the main stage on the first day of the concert. The concert taking place at the EMU Stadium will commence at 22:00.
DJ Kristian Nairn who plays the character “Hodor” in the worldwide hit series “Game of Thrones” will be delivering a concert at the EMU Stadium on Friday, the 18th of May 2018. The concert will commence at 22:00.
Turkey’s famous artist Gülşen will be taking to the stage on Saturday, the 19th of May 2018. The performance is set to commence at 22:00 at the EMU Stadium.
Talks by Abdülkerim Durmaz, Sinan Engin and Uğur Yücel
Turkey’s famous sports commentators, former footballer and managers Abdülkerim Durmaz and Sinan Engin will be delivering a talk titled “About Turkish Football vol.2” at the Mustafa Afşin Ersoy Hall. The talk will be taking place at 14:30 on the 17th of May 2018. Turkish actor Uğur Yücel will be coming together with his fans at 17:00 at the same venue.
A Beşiktaş Fan Club Talk will be taking place on the 18th of May 2018 at 17:00. The “From Past to Present of Beşiktaş” talk taking place at the Activity Hall will be delivered Ahmet Dursun, Baki Mercimek and Alen Markaryan.
Demet Akbağ, Metin Hara and Fırat Tanış will be coming together with their fans
Turkey’s prominent theatre performer Demet Akbağ will be delivering a talk on Friday, the 18th May 2018. The talk will be taking place at 13:30 at the Mustafa Afşin Ersoy Hall. Popular writer Metin Hara will also be coming together with his fans. At 17:30 famous Turkish actor Fırat Tanış will also be delivering a talk.
Theatre Performances
On the Thursday, the 17th of May 2018 the play “Yetersiz Bakiye” will be performed. The play that will start at 19:30 includes thespians Hakan Yılmaz, Eylül Öztürk, Cengiz Şahin and Ebru Kaymakçı On Friday, the 18th of May 2018 the play “Ömürsün Doktor” will be performed. The play includes famous thespians Cem Özer and Betül Şahin.
EMUATHLON on Friday, the 18th of March
The annual EMUATHLON competition organized by the EMU Sports Affairs Director is taking place on Friday, the 18th of March 2018 this year. The competition is set to commence at 15:00 and participation is expected to be significantly high.
COLOR FEST on Saturday, the 19th of March
“Color Fest” known as the world’s most colorful festival will be taking place between 14:30 and 20:30 on Saturday, the 19th of May 2018 at the EMU Golf Course. At the said event, students will be enjoying themselves in the dream like atmosphere that combines music and colours.
