19 May Turkish Maarif College Wins Semi-finals of the 23rd EMU High Schools Mathematics Competition

Second place at Semi-finals and 23rd Year Special Award goes to 20 July Science High School

The semi-finals of the 23rd High Schools Mathematics Competition organised by the Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Arts and Sciences Faculty, Mathematics Department took place at EMU. The semi-finals included Güzelyurt Turkish Maarif College, 19 May Turkish Maarif College, and 20 July Science High School and the Namık Kemal High School. The 19 May Turkish Maarif College team comprising of Ceren Erdoğan, Oğuz Yıldırım ve Pelinsu Hakalmaz emerged victorious, gaining the right to compete in the final. The 20 July Science High School team comprising of Açelya Özata, Kâmil Koca ve Serkan Arslan came second and was awarded the 23rd Year Special Award.

Final and Award Ceremony on 21st of April

The final of the 23rd High School Mathematics Competition will take place at EMU Business and Economics Faculty, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Tahiroğlu Hall at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, 21 April 2017. Famagusta Turkish Maarif College, Nicosia Turkish Maarif College, Bülent Ecevit Anatolian High School and 19 May Turkish Maarif College will be competing in the final. After the final, students will attend a ceremony and receive their awards individually and as teams.

Individual Competition Results

On the 12th of April 2017 Arda Hepgüler from Famagusta Turkish Maarif College and Ercem Yeşil from Nicosia Turkish Maarif College came joint first in the individual category of the 23rd High School Mathematics Competition. Sermet Ersöz from Famagusta Turkish Maarif College came second and Ahmet Harper from Nicosia Turkish Maarif College came third. Ömer Faruk Alp (Bulent Ecevit Anatolian High School) came fourth and was awarded the 23rd Year Special Award. Finally, Kâmil Koca (20 July Science High School) came fifth and was awarded the Onay Fadıl Demirciler Special Award.
