Organised annually by Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Social and Cultural Activities Directorate, “EMU with Folk Songs” activity is taking place for the 8th time this year. During the said organisation students of EMU Education Faculty. Music Teacher Education Program, EMU Music Club Group Mavra and Selda Bağcan, a living legend in world music, will be giving concerts. The event which will take place at EMU Lala Mustafa Paşa Sports Center between 7:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on Friday, 15 March 2019 will be free of charge. In a statement released by EMU Social and Cultural Activities Directorate, all members of the public are invited to this magnificent organisation.

Selda Bağcan Will Exhilarate

World-famous Turkish folk music Selda Bağcan will meet music lovers at EMU with Folk Songs 8 event and sing her popular songs. Her reputation being beyond the borders of Turkey, Selda Bağcan earned her place at the “Legendary and Historic Living Women Singers in World Music” list of Times Magazine. In 1990s, Selda Bağcan earned great success with her “Ziller ve İpler” album in 1992. During the same year, her songs were selected for the movie “Kurşun Adres Sormaz”. Selda Bağcan’s “İnce İnce Bir Kar Yağar” song in “Türkola” album, which was composed by Aşık Mahzuni Şerif, was used at Electronic Arts game “Skate 2” with Mos Def adaptation. His real name being Dante Terrell Smith-Bey, the American actor and singer used the aforesaid Turkish folk song in his album and this led Selda Bağcan’s name to be discussed at album critics and appear in various music magazines.

2010 Grammy Awards nominee for the best rap album and best performance, the hip-hop artist from Brooklyn, Mos Fed, used “İnce İnce Bir Kar Yağar” Turkish folk song at his song “Supermagic” which was released in his latest album “The Ecstatics”.
