International Symposium on Communication in the Digital Age

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), Faculty of Communication will organized the “4th International Symposium on Communication in the Digital Age” in collaborations with Communication Research Association (ILAD) and the Communication Faculty Deans’ (ILDEK). According to the statements made by EMU, the event will take place on 28-30 November 2024. To be hosted by EMU Faculty of Communication, the international symposium will discuss today’s and tomorrow’s communication with the theme of artificial intelligence. The said event will commence on Thursday, 28 November 2024 at 10:00 a.m. with the participation of EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç.

 

On the first day of the symposium, permanent executive board member of ILDEK, Prof. Dr. Asaf Varol from The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga will participate in the event as a keynote speaker, delivering a presentation titled “Artificial Intelligence and Communication”. On the second day, another keynote speaker, Özdemir Tokel, Executive Board Chair of Bayrak Radio and Television Institution (BRTK) will take part in the event with a presentation titled “Political Communication and Media”.

 

Dr. Hıfzı Topuz Not Forgotten

One of the prominent figures in the field of communication and journalism, Dr. Hıfzı Topuz who sadly passed away previous year is not forgotten. Journalist Ali Baturay, Yenidüzen Newspaper Columnist Cenk Mutluyakalı, Turkish News Agency (TAK) Director Fehmi Gürdallı, Near East University (NEU) academic staff member Assist. Prof. Dr. İbrahim Özejder and ILAD General Secretary Füsun Özbilgen will discuss the “International Communication Order and Turkish Cypriot Media”.

 

The symposium will focus on the changes in communication processes driven by digital transformation and the advancement of artificial intelligence technologies, showcasing 48 academic papers. As outlined in the detailed program on the “CIDA International 2024” website, the event will feature presentations in both Turkish and English, spread across 11 sessions, and will take place on 28-29 November 2024.

 

Prof. Dr. Metin Ersoy: “We are Extremely Proud”

Making statements regarding the symposium, Dean of EMU Faculty of Communication Prof. Dr. Metin Ersoy said; “We are extremely proud for bringing important and esteemed figures of communication world, together in an event hosted by EMU Faculty of Communication”. Prof. Dr. Ersoy noted that the symposium would focus on artificial intelligence research. Prof. Dr. Ersoy also highlighted that Prof. Dr. Aysel Aziz, the founding dean of the EMU Faculty of Communication and Chair of the Communication Studies Association, had entrusted them with the responsibility of hosting the event, expressing his gratitude for the trust and assuring that they would successfully fulfil the task.
