The 3rd Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) International Choral Festival will be taking place in Famagusta between the 9th and 14th of July 2018 as an organization of the Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU). A total of 28 choirs and 1000 chorists and guests from the TRNC and Turkey will be participating in the festival. The opening ceremony of the 3rd TRNC International Choral Festival will be taking place at the Rauf Raif Denktaş Culture and Congress Center on Monday, the 9th of July 2018 at 17:00.

The guest choirs will be staying in the EMU campus and premises. During their time in the country they will obtain the opportunity to carry out sightseeing activities and view historical monuments and natural beauty. The participating choirs will perform in unison the Cypriot ballad ‘’Bahçada Guzu’’ which was arranged by Turkish Cypriot composer Oskay Hoca. The concerts will be commencing at 20:00 between the 9th and 13th of July 2018 at the Rauf Raif Denktaş Culture and Congress Center.

Festive atmosphere expected 

The choral festival that will feature the contributions of numerous educators and artists is expected to take place in a festive atmosphere. The concerts will be taking place in memory of Kamran Aziz, Cemaliye İrfan Kıyıcı, Muzaffer Arkan, Saip Egüz and Gülsen Çobanoğlu Hoca. During the opening there will be a bi-communal concert delivered by the “Papageorgio String Quartet”.

During the festival the “Eastern Mediterranean University Service to Choral Music Award” will be presented to EMU Faculty of Education, Department of Fine Arts Education Chair and composer Prof. Memduh Özdemir as well as Turkish composer Asst. Prof. Dr. Nedim Yıldız and Asst. Prof. Dr. Aykut Önder Sarıçiftçi.

Festival Director and conductor Erkan Dağlı indicated that this year’s festival will be celebrated with even more excitement and passion stating that there will be a range of different concerts, workshops and training in addition to the choral concerts every night.
