100th Anniversary of the National Struggle

Eastern Mediterranean University Atatürk Research and Application Center (EMU-ATAUM)   will be organising a series of events in celebration of the 100th anniversary of 19 May 1919, the starting date of Turkish national struggle. Since May 19 is also the “Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day”, and in view of the fact that there should be young people in the focus of activities, the aforesaid center cooperated with student clubs for activities. More specificly, the activities have been organised in cooperation with the student clubs operating under EMU Social and Cultural Activities Directorate, namely Search and Rescue Club, ADK, BJK, FB, Photography Club, Folk Dancing Community, Red Crescent Club, and Theatre Club.

The Target is Record-breaking Blood Donation

Within the scope of the aforesaid activities, on 3 May 2019, a record-breaking blood donation campaign will take place at EMU Atatürk Square with the collaboration of EMU Red Crescent Club and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Turkish Red Crescent. More than 105 units of blood is expected to be collected during the blood donation campaign.

Kazım Karabekir’s Daughter Timsal Karabekir to Give a Conference

The organisations will continue with a conference by Timsal Karabekir at EMU Prof. Dr. Mehmet Tahiroğlu Hall at 2:30 p.m. on 8 May 2019. Titled “National Struggle Hero Kazım Karabekir’s Daughter Timsal Karabekir”, the conference will feature a talk on  the events encountered by Kazım Karabekir during the national struggle period. Within the scope of the activities, a “National Struggle Oratorio” will take place at Rauf Raif Denktaş Culture and Congress Center at 7:30 p.m. on 13 May 2019. The event will host an oratorio, folk dances, musical performances and a show by the Search and Rescue team.

Ata’s Signature will Appear in Air, on Land and at Sea

The 100th anniversary celebration activities will continue with a “National Struggle Banner Painting activity to be held at Atatürk Square on 13 and 14 May 2019. At the same time, another activity titled “Re-creating the Signature of Ata in Air, on Land and at Sea” will take place on 10-11-12 and 19 May 2019 at EMU Yasin Düşüner Stadium and EMU Beach Club. At the ‘Air Signing’ event, a 15-meter Atatürk signature will be secured with helium balloons and appear in the sky over the EMU Yasin Düşüner Stadium during the National Struggle Week.

Again, on the same dates, depending on the weather conditions, a Sea Signing event will be held at emu Beach Club. During the aforesaid activity, two students and four divers from the scuba diving team will open a large Atatürk signature and flags of the TRNC and Turkey under the sea. At 2:00 p.m. on 19 May 2019,  a signing activity on land will take place at EMU Yasin Düşüner Stadium. In this event, a large Atatürk signature visible from the air will be created with the participation of EMU students.

Finally, at 7:23 p.m. on 19 May 2019, “19 May Youth Walk” will commence at Atatürk Square and end at “Sakarya Roundabout”
