Ibrahim Cahit (Arkut) was born in Cyprus on 7th January 1948. He graduated from Kabatas Lycee (Science Branch) in 1966. He received the Dipl. Ing. Degree in electrical engineering (Light Current Branch) from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Technical University of Istanbul in 1971. His Dipl. Ing. thesis title is "Flow graphs and their applications". From 1971 to 1973 he did his national service in Cyprus at the Turkish Industrial Market. In 1974 with a fellowship from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands he joined to the electrical engineering department of the Technical University of Eindhoven, the Netherlands, where he did research on sparse matrices and graph theoretic solution of large linear equations systems, as a member of the CAD Group. In 1975 he returned to Cyprus and joined Turkish Telecommunications Administration as an project engineer. From 1975 to 1996 he took several positions within the TTA as a senior engineer, chief engineer and general manager. His principal duties were on switching systems operations and maintenances.

From 1980 to 1981 he was a visiting associate professor at the University of Waterloo, Department of Combinatorics and Optimization, Ontario, Canada and in 1985 he was a visiting professor at the McMaster University, Ontario, Canada. Since 1982 he has been (on part-time base) with Eastern Mediterranean University, North Cyprus teaching and doing research at various departments such as electrical and electronic engineering, management and economics and finally mathematics and computer sciences. He is now with Europen University of Lefke as the head of the Department of COmputer Science and Engineering. In 1995 based on his previous works in graph theory he received his Ph. D. degree in electronic engineering from Eastern Mediterranean University. He is doctoral thesis title is "Cordial, Graceful and Harmonious Graph Labelings".

He was elected fellow of the Institute of Combinatorics and its Applications, Manitoba, Canada (1992). He is also a fellow of the USTTI, Washington D.C., U.S.A. (1988) and a fellow of the Salzburg Seminar, Austria (1986) on information technologies. He is serving as a referee for several journals on graph theory. His bibliography has been included in the International Who's Who of Intellectuals (1978), Men of Achievement (1978).

He is married with two children. Other than mathematics and computer science he has interested in problems and issues on Internet and Information Society in today's and up coming 21st century. He is an active member of the Turkish Engineers Association and delivering lectures and organizing seminars in Cyprus.
