According to an aggreement with National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) of USA, a sample of lunar rock will be exhibited during ACE2000 for the occasion of meeting related to Space Civil Engineering.

The exhibition will be held at the Eastern Mediterranean University Library during 09-28 October 2000. It will then continue in the Civil Engineering Department until the commencement of the congress. During the congress ACE2000, the exhibition will be held parallel to the congress, at Salamis Hotel, between 1 November 2000 and 3 November 2000.

Below are given basic characteristics of the sample:

Lunar Sample No. 15555,462

This is a portion of the largest rock brought back from the moon by Apollo 15 Astronauts Scott, Irwin and Warden. It was collected at the edge of a very subdued depression approximately 12 meters north of the rim of Hadley Rille.  The total weight of the rock as returned to Earth was 9613.7 grams (over 21 pounds) and was the largest rock returned to Earth up to that time.

This sample weighs 92.5 grams. A blocky and angular vuggy rock of brownish-gray color, its texture is homogeneous with medium to coarse grain.  It is a basalt rock composed of 55% pyroxene, 26% plagioclase, 15% olivine, 3½ % opaque minerals and ½ % cristobalite. The age of the rock is approximately 3.3 billion years as determined by radiogenic dating methods.
