EASTERN MEDITERRANEAN UNIVERSITY RANKS 1277 IN THE WORLD UNIVERSITIES RANKING IN WEB PORTAL APPLICATIONS. |
According to the January 2008 issue of Webometrics, which measures the Web Portal applications used by the World Universities for publishing information electronically, Eastern Mediterranean University ranked 1277th. Based on the information released from the Directorate of the Computer Center, EMU ranked 1401st among the world universities in July 2007 report, and 13th among the universities in Turkey; during these past 6 months the university climbed 124 steps up the ladder to rank 1277th among the world universities and 12th amongst the Universities in Turkey. EMU is competing against the most prominent world universities like MIT, Stanford, Harvard, Cambridge, and Oxford and like Bilkent, Bogazici and METU from Turkey ; EMU aims to be ranked among the first 500 world universities with its IT infrastructure.
Webometrics measurements are determined according to the number of visits done, depths of the pages, time on site and utilization of applications available at the emu.edu.tr web address. These measurements also take into consideration the intensity of these electronic information systems after analyzing them.
Eastern Mediterranean University is increasing the intensity of the online operations while at the same time providing everything through the electronic medium from students’ learning environments to the administrative and academic functions. Students can register and learn to pay their tuition fees online, and reach their courses, the course contents and even submit their assignments online. Course materials are published and grades are announced on-line by the Faculty and staff through the electronic medium. Conference announcements are made online and papers are submitted electronically for evaluation. In administrative affairs, all procedures related to salaries, leaves of absence, personnel information, all kinds of work and equipment demands, statistical information and electronic communication are performed through the electronic media.
Eastern Mediterranean University aims to rank among the first 500 universities in the world by the end of the year 2009 by increasing the Web Contents and Portal electronic information systems. This will help to increase the satisfaction and productivity of students and personnel, and also the efficient usage of IT systems in the information age.
