EMU Faculty of Architecture organised ‘First Spring School’

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Faculty of Architecture organized the ‘First Spring School’ themed ‘Tourism and Architecture’ with the suggestion of Gazi University Architecture Faculty, coordinated by Politechnico di Milano/Italy and with the participation of lecturers from Germany Bochum University and Denmark/Coppenhagen Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts as well as many students. The works of art of lecturers and students coming from different cultures are still exhibited as ‘Workshop’ at Famagusta’s one of the most historical point ‘Somineli Ev’. Students worked on making the City Wall of Famagusta more attractive for the tourists by renovations and they worked on making Famagusta benefit from the sea more which made the students have different perspectives.

 



 

The activity is supported by EU Education Commission as an Erasmus Program Intensive Program. Paola Leardini, a member of Politechnico Milano University declared that: “It is inspiring to make such a historical country as Cyprus a more beautiful place. Spring School will be beneficial for the groups who have joined as well as Cyprus itself”. EMU Faculty of Architecture post graduate student Turkan Torun has been organising such activities for the last two years. She also declared that it is very important to work in a place where there are lots of different languages spoken and differnt cultrues experienced to improve technically. She continued with: “We are trying to design a city where the sea will be more beneficial to the city without touching the tecture of the history.”

 

 Ankara Gazi Univeristy arcitechture student Rabia Yilmaz imagined Cyprus as an entertainment city before she started working on the project and now she adds: “We are looking at Cyprus with a different perspective of architecture with the people from diffrernt cultures. This project will be very beneficial for all of us.”
