CALL FOR PAPERS

The Department of Economics is organizing a conference during 26-27 October 2009 on "The Policy Options of the Turkish Cypriot Economy under Global Economic Crises". The conference is aimed to include presentations and encourage discussions for policy suggestions, strategies to recover from Global economic crises and maintain economic development in North Cyprus.

To this end foreign keynote speakers who have already confirmed their participation in the conference are

Max Watson (Oxford University)
Raed Safadi (Chief Economist in Dubai)
Öner Günçavdı (Istanbul Technical University)

Local Speakers from EMU will be

Özay Mehmet (Department of Economics, EMU & the Dean of the Faculty)
Hasan Gungör (Department of Economics, EMU)
Yenal Sürec (Department of Economics, EMU)
Mustafa Besim (Department of Banking and Finance, EMU)

In addition, we would also call for submission for presentations from researchers on the subject.
Draft papers or at least extended abstracts should be sent to mehmet.balcilar@emu.edu.tr or hasan.gungor@emu.edu.tr by 20 September 2009. Each paper submitted should indicate a corresponding author and include contact information. Notification of paper acceptance will be made by 25 September 2009.

CONFERENCE INFORMATION
Conference costs will be covered by the EMU Department of Economics and, as usual, there will be no participation fee. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer financial support for travel, accommodation or out-of-pocket expenses. The conference will be held at the luxurious EMU Campus. As organizers it will be our pleasure to show you some of the beautiful sites of North Cyprus and the unique nature of our country. We are planning a short tour in the old city of Famagusta. Also, we will be offering an optional one-day sightseeing trip on 28 October 2009 to Kyrenia.
