Within the framework of the social awareness projects aiming to protect the nature, Eastern Mediterranean University has started a “Waste Battery Recycling Project” in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment. The “Waste Battery Recycling Project” was introduced and inaugurated on March 12, 2010 at 12:30 at the Eastern Mediterranean College by Prof. Dr. Ülker Vancı Osam, Vice-Rector of Student Services and Social-Cultural Affairs. In her opening speech, Ülker Vancı Osam stated that in order to put this project into practice, waste battery collection bins have been placed in 10 different places* around campus. Prof. Dr. Osam emphasized the fact that each and every individual has responsibilities towards the environment and the nature, and thus, must act accordingly. Prof. Dr. Osam added that the Rector’s Office will continue initiating and taking an active part in projects on similar areas aiming to raise social awareness.
The Principal of the Eastern Mediterranean College, Sevinc Boztuna, also gave a speech on the same day and pointed out the fact that protecting the environment by avoiding the environmental pollution caused by the wide use of technology in today’s world is in our hands. Boztuna expressed her happiness on behalf of the Eastern Mediterranean College in taking part in such a notable project and added that she is proud of the “Waste Battery Recycling Project” being started at Eastern Mediterranean College first.
