“VETLAM”VISITS EMU-CEC

Senior officials of “VETLAM” (Support to the development and promotion of VET systems, lifelong learning and active labour market measures), a project financially supported by the European Union, visited the Eastern Mediterranean University and received information about the Continuing Education Center.

According to the EMU Public Relations and Press Office, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cem Tanova, chair of the EMU-CEC,  Aygün Özyahyalar, EMU-CEC executive board member, and Dervis Eksici, EMU-CEC coordinator and Public Relations and Press Office Director, were in the meeting. On behalf of VETLAM, Willem Kolthof, assistant chair of VETLAM project team, and Erling Have, expert of professional development and life-long learning, joined the meeting.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cem Tanova, chair of the EMU-CEC, expressed his happiness in hosting VETLAM officials in EMU and provided information regarding EMU-CEC activities and projects.  

 QUALITY AND CONTINUOUS LEARNING

            Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cem Tanova expressed that EMU-CEC was established with the purpose of providing lifelong and continuous education to adults as well as students. He added that the center has the provision of information and educational support about current developments in global, technological, theoretical and applicable areas as its main priority.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tanova also said that individuals and institutions from different professional areas of the public organise projects to meet the continuous educational needs of the society. He also added that EMU units organise quality, short and long term continuous education programs in the form of certification programs, courses, seminars, and conferences.

            VETLAM project senior officials explained the aim of the project which is to set up a system to improve the professional skills of both employed and unemployed workforce. They also added that another aim is to help the disadvantaged people join the workforce. The officials said that they started the project in February, 2009 and aim to finish it by February, 2012.
