Mission
The Tourism and Hospitality Management Program offers two options as four- and two-year programs.The aim of the four year program is to prepare students for top management positions in the tourism sector. The first two years of this program runs parallel to the two-year program, and the students choose to study either hospitality management or travel industry after their first year. Successful students are granted a BS degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management. The two-year program aims to prepare students for supervisory and managerial positions. After the freshman year, during which the students receive both theoretical and practical education, they choose to specialize either in hospitality or travel management. Successful students graduate with an AAS degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management.
About the Program
The BS and AAS degrees given by the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management for its tourism and hospitality program, are accredited at an international level. The TedQual Quality Assurance Certification System for Education and programs specialized in Tourism was created in 1998 by the World Tourism Organization through WTO-THEMIS Foundation with the aim of contributing to the achievement of quality and efficiency in Tourism Education and Training. The TedQual Certification System is the most internationally accepted quality assurance system for Tourism Education and Training. The 2 and 4 year programs of the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management have been approved by World Tourism Organization-THEMIS Foundation for TedQual Certification. Edexcel is a leading provider of high quality academic and vocational qualifications. One of the three major awarding bodies in UK , Edexcel is a vital and innovative force in education and training. Edexcel was formed in 1996 by the merger of two of the leading examination and assessment boards in the UK : BTEC, the Business and Technology Education Council; and ULEAC, the University of London Examinations and Assessment Council. The School of Tourism and Hospitality Management of Eastern Mediterranean University is an approved Edexcel Center .
Opportunities Offered
Computer Labs
The School accommodates 6 computer labs with CD-ROM and Multimedia facilities. The computer labs are open between 08:00 and 22:00 for the use of all the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management students. The labs also offer internet and e-mail facilities, and students can access information via their own e-mail accounts.
Multimedia Lab and Speaking Center
Here, in these labs, our foreign language teachers integrate the use of Multi Media into language teaching and learning. The teachers choose suitable activities from internet or author their own activities by using programmes such as Eagle, Wida or Hot Potatoes.
Fidelio Lab
Fidelio is a hotel software package most widely used all over the world. It is the most efficient and updated system of the hospitality industry. This is why big hotel chains such as Sheraton and Hilton use this software in all their businesses.
Galileo and Amadeus Lab
Galileo and Amadeus Systems, widely used by aviation industry and travel agencies and which provide information for the industry about reservation, ticketing and air fares, accommodation, car rental, general data for countries, cities and airports, expedite air transportation.
Demo (Practice) Kitchen
The Demo Kitchen has all the technological infrastructure, and is far more than just a demonstration kitchen. This training kitchen is used to assist students in Hospitality Management programs to gain a thorough insight into the operation and management of a professional kitchen.
Job Opportunities
Students who choose hospitality management have the opportunity to do their internship in the 5 and 4-star hotels and first class holiday villages in Turkey , the TRNC, and foreign countries. Our students are also given the chance to do their internship in the USA , England , Canada , Spain , Australia , and New Zealand as a result of the coordination between a consulting company and the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management. For our students, EMU Beach Club serves as a laboratory where they put theory into practice. Organizations that accept students as trainees from our school are Hilton International, Sheraton Hotels, Swiss Hotel, Chateau Elan (USA), Marriott Hotels, Kempinski Hotels, Dedeman Hotels, Radisson SAS Hotels. Our students are offered jobs in these organizations as soon as they graduate.
Students who choose travel management have the opportunity to do their internship in the travel agencies, airlines and tour operators in Turkey , the TRNC and in foreign countries. Our students are also given the chance to do their internship in the USA , England , and Canada as a result of the coordination between a consulting company and the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management. Organizations that accept students as trainees from our school are Cyprus Turkish Airlines, Turkish Airlines, Thomson Holidays, Thomas Cook Holidays, etc. Our graduates are also offered jobs in these organizations.
