General Information

The Faculty of Engineering is offering engineering education at international standards and quality in an English. medium at undergraduate and graduate levels with its five highly elite and reputable departments. Our departments are close followers of all the innovations and developments in the fields of technology and science; attach extreme importance to research and quality in education as a result of their position in the TRNC as well as in Turkey ; and also support the collaboration between the University and the Industry.

Research and Development

EMU-TEDCEN ( Technology Development Center ) was founded in 2000 to create the foundations of a techno-park within the EMU campus. The Engineering faculty members carry out research projects which contribute tremendously to the collaboration between the university, industry and the public sector.

EMU-ATRDI (Advanced Technologies Research and Development Institute) was founded in 2001 in order to unite the research and development activities within the university under a single umbrella. The Institute is currently preparing an R&D master plan to serve the entire EMU research community. The institute provides a channel for the engineering faculty members, to facilitate the submission of applications to international projects.

The Energy Research Center was founded in 1995 and it is engaged in research projects dealing with exploring and using energy in a more rational way to create a cleaner environment that contributes to the sustainable development of societies.

Other research centers in the Faculty of Engineering are as follows:

• Information Technologies Research and Development Center (INTERDEC)
• Renewable Energy Resources Research Center

About the Faculty

The academic staff in the Faculty of Engineering of EMU consists of 74 faculty members coming from China, England, France, India, Iran, Jordan, Lebanon, Russia, Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. We have 12 full professors, 21 associate professors, 41 assistant professors, 4 full-time instructors, 4 part-time instructors, and more than 100 research assistants. The academic staff have outstanding publications in scholarly journals and international conference proceedings.

The Faculty of Engineering, founded in 1986, consists of five departments; each department carrying out its educational activities in a separate building designed and equipped in a manner such that needs of the department are met .

All of the departments confer degrees that are recognized by the Higher Education Council (YÖK) of Turkey and they are in the process of gaining substantial equivalency from ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology , USA ). The medium of instruction is English in the Faculty. All undergraduate programs are 4-year degree programs.

Educational Objectives

The Faculty of Engineering offers programs at international standards to the students enrolled in all the programs, and the main objective of the undergraduate program is to train engineers:

• Who are fully knowledgeable in their professional fields and have acquired the necessary skills the profession demands
• Who have the capacity to analyze, synthesize, design and apply
• Who can be team players as the real world problems are progressively becoming more interdisciplinary
• Who have learned how to learn and have acquired the habit of life-long learning that enable them to be successful in an evolving global economy and allow for the betterment of the communities in which they live
• Who can use the computer effectively, and know how to exploit information technology
• Who have acquired self-confidence, and who can readily take the initiative

In order to fulfill our mission stated above, we are in a continuous process of revising and updating our programs and integrating recent developments in the respective engineering disciplines.
