Program Aims

• Administer quality teacher education programs with a humanistic approach
• Adopt and administer a functional view of education reconciling society's educational expectations with the requirements of contemporary education
• Develop new models of teacher education responsive to the needs of society
• Develop, apply and improve the principles and processes of learning and teaching in line with the educational philosophy of teaching how to learn
• Conduct original high quality research in education, and present the results at respective national and international institutions
• Contribute to the policy and future decisions in education via research projects
• Evaluate and improve the educational programs according to internationally recognized standards
• Create and raise public awareness with respect to education
• Generate and sustain respect for education in society by training successful professional individuals and researchers in particular, and good citizens in general

Educational Objectives

Faculty of Education aims at attaining the following long-term objectives:

• To become an institution preferred foremost by the most select educational institutions and research establishments of the future in the country and region
• To become an institution of education and research aware of the influence between education and the changes and developments in the world
• To provide the continuity of quality faculty positions receptive to change and progress
• To develop, implement and share new techniques and ideas in teacher education
• To become a leading institution of education providing counseling and education services to families, teachers and administrators.

About the Faculty

The Faculty of Education is established in 1999 and currently has three departments offering the following undergraduate and graduate programs:

• Elementary School Mathematics Teacher Education (in Turkish)
• Pre-School Teacher Education (in Turkish)
• Psychological Counseling and Guidance Program (B.S.)
• MEd in Educational Sciences (with thesis)
• Secondary School Subject Teaching non-thesis Master's Program (M.Ed. in Turkish)

By implementing these programs, the Faculty of Education aims to train independent, cooperative and proficient educators and teachers, who value critical thinking, believe in lifelong learning, have a sense of responsibility for the community at large, and internalize contemporary and global values.
