What is the English Language Proficiency Test?

In order to enter your chosen faculty or school at EMU, you must show that your English is good enough for you to succeed in their studies.  EMU’s English language proficiency test is designed to check this.

The test has two parts:

Part 1 places undergraduate students in one of the four levels in the English Preparatory School (Beginner, Elementary, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate).

Part 2 is for students who are placed above Intermediate level.  Students who achieve the score required by their department in Part 2 pass directly to their faculty or school.

Postgraduate students take Part 2 only, and are placed - according to their performance - in the Postgraduate English language programme.

What is the Proficiency Preparation Programme?

The Proficiency Preparation Programme has been designed to help you get ready for the Proficiency Test.  The Programme consists of two courses.  Both courses provide a series of workshops and exam practice sessions.  The two courses are:

1)      Part 1 Proficiency Preparation (for students with lower level English)

2)      Part 2 Proficiency Preparation (for students with higher level English)

When you register for the programme, you will have the opportunity to attend workshops in both courses, if you wish.
